The Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) is making every effort to increase spectator interest in the Qatar League, which started last Sunday.
Eleven teams are vying for honours in the league, the first phase of which will conclude on January 14.
Last season’s venues — Al Arabi Sports Club and QVA Indoor Hall — will continue to host a lion’s share of the matches.
Al Wakrah Sports Club, which used to organise games in the past, will host a few matches this season. “The quality of the league has been on the rise over the years. We’ve worked very hard to increase the interest of spectators. Our new social media tools, which include live updates on Facebook and Twitter, will help them remain hooked to the sport,” said QVA President Khalid Ali Al Mawlawi.
The QVA chief said all clubs had been informed in advance of the gruelling schedule of the first phase, which will see 55 matches being played in a month at three venues.
“Since the national team competed in major events like the Asian Games and Arab Championship recently, it was a challenging task for us to finalise the schedule. It was made in such a way that Qatar internationals get sufficient rest,” he added.
