The Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) will organise the GCC Volleyball Festival for under-15 players in Doha.
Five teams have confirmed their participation and they are: Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia and hosts Qatar.
The GCC Volleyball Festival is a brainchild of QVA Secretary General Mohammed Ali al Mohannadi. It is basically aimed at creating an interest for the sport among young players. The move will build a talent pool which is expected to produce promising players for various national teams in the future.
The participating teams will arrive in Doha by August 22 and the round-robin league matches will begin on August 23. Every day, four matches are scheduled before the last round is held on August 27.
The Qatar team, which had been training in Turkey for the Festival, returned to Doha on Tuesday. Coach Ahmed al Sayed supervised the physical, mental and skills training of his players. The hosts are feeling upbeat and confident after the training sessions. They will use the remaining days in Doha to be fully ready for the Festival.
A Technical Committee Meeting has been planned on August 22 at Golden Ocean Hotel at 9 am. Next day, Bahrain will take on Saudi Arabia and Qatar face Oman in the first two matches scheduled at 10 am. Later in the evening, Kuwait are to clash with Saudi Arabia, while Bahrain are pitted against Oman.
