Qatar went down fighting to hosts Bahrain in four close sets in the Western Zone Qualification Tournament and still qualified for the Asian Men’s Under-23 Volleyball Championship.
Prior to the last league match, Bahrain were holding the top slot with 10 points from three wins and one loss. Qatar were placed second with nine points from three victories out of four matches.
However, Bahrain won by 25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 25-20 to top the pool with four victories.
Along with Bahrain and Qatar, Saudi Arabia also advanced to the Asian championship, which will be hosted by Myanmar in August.
Qatar’s previous three wins in four matches were recorded against Palestine, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Their only loss came against Iraq.
