emerged as GCC Under-20 champions with an all-win record in the round-robin format event held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Qatar started their campaign with a 25-13, 26-24, 25-23 victory against Bahrain. They then beat Oman 25-22, 25-19, 22-25, 25-23. Their last round -robin tie against Saudi Arabia was virtually a final and Qatar prevailed 26-24, 22-25, 25-23, 25-23.
Qatari players, coached by Spaniard Ricardo Maldonado, underwent rigorous training ahead of the GCC event. They had attended a fortnight-long camp in Egypt.
“Our boys have been working hard. This victory is a reward for their discipline. With the talent they possess, I’m sure they’ll do well in future events,” said Qatar Volleyball Association Treasurer Yousef Ahmed Kano, who welcomed the players back on their arrival at the Hamad International Airport.
