Former Qatar captain and Al Arabi star Saeed Juma Al Hitmi announced his retirement from all forms of the game. The 40-year-old, who was a long-serving setter of the 24-time league champions, had been repeatedly bogged down by knee injuries in the recent past.
Saeed’s last success with Arabi came at the 2014 Emir’s Cup while he has not represented the national team since the GCC Championship at home in November, ’13.
Coming from a family of volleyball players, Saeed was a part of many success stories including Qatar’s triumph at the 2009 Gulf Cup in Oman.
“I’m honoured to have represented the country at the highest level. Also, I’m thankful to my colleagues at Al Arabi who’ve supported me all these years. It was a privilege playing for this champion club,” said Saeed, who represented Arabi at the FIVB Club World Championship from ’09 to ’12.
There will be a huge festival to honor Al Hitmi on the 17th of May in Al Arabi Club hall under the participation of Qatar National Team and some of the game stars from all around the world>
