The title clash is scheduled at the QVA Indoor Hall on Friday at 6:30
The Qatar Cup Volleyball Championship final pits the best two teams of the current season as double reigning champions Al Rayyan Club take on Police at the QVA Indoor Hall on Friday at 6.30 pm.
At a press conference on Wednesday, QVA Board Member Mohammed Salem al Kuwari announced that the title clash will carry QR500,000 in prize money with the winners pocketing QR300,000.
He wished good luck to both the teams and expressed hope that League champions Police and Arab club championship winners Al Rayyan Club will play to their potential and take the sport to new levels while making the match a treat to watch for fans.
Also present during the press conference were the officials, players and coaches of both the finalists. While Al Rayyan were represented by Mubarak Dahi Waleed, Marko Vukosinovic and Kamil Rychlicki and coach Carlos Schwanke, for Police, skipper John Chigbo, Mikko Oivanen, Willner Rivas and coach Damiano Arredondo participated in the media talk.
Both the teams had to go through the grind during the best-of-three semi-final series. Police and Al Rayyan won their first match but their rivals Al Wakrah and Al Arabi launched stirring comebacks to force the deciders by winning the second meeting.
Police and Al Rayyan had to bring in their A game again and reached the final, after breaking the resistance of Al Wakrah and Al Arabi, respectively.
This is the fifth clash of the season between the two teams, after Al Rayyan and Police clinched two each. However, with Al Rayyan beating the rivals and winning the Super Cup and the Arab club championship in Tunis, The Lions have got a slight edge.
Even last year, Al Rayyan Club entered the fourth successive final of the Qatar Cup and had beaten Police to emerge the winners for a second time. But after beating Al Rayyan twice on the way to winning the QVA League this season, Police will be aiming to repeat that performance. It will be interesting to watch if Police will be lucky second time on Friday.
