The Qatar Volleyball Association held the draw for the 42 edition of the His Highness Amir Volleyball Cup for the 2019-2020 sports season, whose competitions will start from October 8 to 30 , with the participation of all clubs in the Senior Men`s league this season.
The drawing of lots, which took place in the QVA meeting hall , was witnessed by the presence of Mr. Saeed Salem Al-Jamaani, QVA assistant secretary, and the technical expert Mr. Hussein Imam, and in the presence of representatives of the participating clubs and representatives of sports media.
The tournament will be played from the preliminary round in the league system of one round, the six teams ranked from fifth to tenth place were distributed to the first two groups, including clubs (Al-Gharafa, Al-Shamal and Al-Wakra), and the second group includes clubs (Qatar, Al-Sadd and Al-Khor) competing in the qualifiers for the quarter-finals. With the top four in the Senior Men`s league this season, namely: Police, league champion, Al-Arabi the runner-up, Al-Rayyan, third-place, and Al-Ahli, fourth, the knockout matches will be played, and the qualifying matches will start from 8 to 13 October.
The draw also revealed the features of the quarter-finals, where the Police team (the league champion) was placed at the top of the first group, and AlArabi (runner-up) was at the head of the second group, and the police are scheduled to meet in the quarter-finals with the second-place holder of the second group (playoffs), either. Al-Khor, Al-Sadd or Qatar, while Al-Arabi will meet in the quarter-finals with the first-place holder (qualifiers), whether Al-Gharafa, Al-Shamal or Al-Wakrah, while Al-Rayyan (third league) will meet in the quarter-finals with the second group first (qualifiers), and Al-Ahli (fourth league) will meets with the first of the second group (playoffs).
According to the road map revealed by the draw, it is expected that many surprises will occur during the tournament stages, and the four winning teams from the quarter-finals will qualify for the best of three matches to compete in the semi-finals, and in the final round the two winners from the round of four will meet to determine the first and second places.
