Holders and twice champions Police brushed aside the opening set blues to beat lowly Al Sadd Club in straight sets in the QVA League second leg in Doha on Monday.
The 29-27, 25-21, 25-21 victory was an eighth one in 10 matches and enabled Police to take the second spot with 23 points behind leaders and unbeaten Al Arabi.
Police are two points adrift of 25-time winners Al Arabi, while Al Rayyan and Al Wakrah have 20 points each from six and seven victories, respectively.
Al Ahli Club, who beat Al Khor 3-0 in another match, are fifth with six wins in 10 games.
Police opened a four-point gap in the middle of the first set against Al Sadd (16-11). But the latter rallied back and forced extended points before going down 27-29. But in the next two sets, Police maintained a good lead after initial resistance from Al Sadd and went on to complete the victory in 71 minutes.
Joao Neto and Dimitro Vietsky, who had four blocks, collected 14 and 13 points, respectively for the winners. Oragwa Kennedy (8), Osman Abdulwahid (7) and Assam Mahmoud (6) were other useful scorers.
Raimi Wadidie and Daud led the resistance from Al Sadd and contributed 21 and 18 points, respectively. Musa Koni also added 10.
Al Ahli, who won the first and third sets without much ado, trailed most of the second set. They just about managed to force extra points at the end before sealing the win and coming out with a 3-0 verdict in 76 minutes.
Miguel Angel Dalmao had a game-high 21 points for Al Ahli and Roman Danilov mustered 15 points. Eugenie Turin topped the scoring chart with 14 for Al Khor. Cairo had the second best tally of 10.
