El Jaish beat Al Gharafa 25-19, 25-14, 20-25, 25-21 in their Qatar League opener at the Al Arabi Sports Club.
Jaish began well and won the first two sets easily. But they took the foot off the accelerator in the third and that allowed the opposition to come back into the game as they reduced the deficit. However, the Armymen won the fourth set and closed the contest.
Polish recruit Jakub Jarosz was the architect of Jaish’s victory with his lethal smashes.
The 29-year-old is gelling well with Mahmoud Essam and Milos Stevanovic, and the trio is sure to prove a tough proposition for the opposition.
In the other matches, champions Al Arabi beat Al Wakrah 25-22, 25-20, 25-17, Qatar SC defeated Al Shamal 26-24, 28-26, 26-24 and Al Ahli got past Al Khor 25-19, 25-15, 23-25, 25-16.
