Defending champions and 22-time winners Al Arabi Club booked their spot in the prestigious Emir Cup Volleyball Championship on Wednesday after their 3-0 victory over Al Shamal Club.
Al Arabi got off to a strong start and wrapped up their 25-11 25-21 25-23 victory in one hour and 28 minutes at the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee Indoor Hall.
German professional Gyorgy Grozer was in dominant form, collecting 17 points for the winners. Mohamed Ibrahim and American Taylor Sander netted seven each.
For Al Shamal Club, Pawel was the most impressive with 16 points. Begal was the next highest with six.
With this victory, Al Arabi Club set up a repeat of the 2017 Qatar Cup final and the best of three semi-final series against 11-time winners Al Rayyan Club will start on Saturday.
In the other match of the day, 2017 QVA League champions Police did not need to exert much as they beat Al Gharafa Club 25-21 25-14 25-19 in 65 minutes.
Both professional Mads Ditlevsen and Thijs Ter Horst posted 14 and 12 points. For Al Gharafa, the best effort came from Paolo (12 points)
The semi-final challengers for four-time finalists Police are last year’s runners-up El Jaish.
