Al Rayyan Club have won the GCC Clubs Volleyball Championship, which concluded in Oman on Sunday. The QVA League champions won all six of their matches, including a straight-sets (25-14, 25-23, 26-24) victory against their archrivals from Qatar, Al Arabi Club, in a winner-takes-all clash.
This was the second regional title for Al Rayyan, having also won in 2011. Al Rayyan won five of their matches 3-0. Against Bahrain’s Al Ahli Club, they needed four sets to collect full points.
Al Arabi, who were the first Qatari club to win the top prize in 2010, finished second. They also put up a good show, clinching four of their matches 3-0. They defeated Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia 3-1 before suffering a 0-3 loss to Al Rayyan.
Bahrain’s Al Ahli grabbed third place with 12 points from four wins, while Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli were fourth, picking up nine points from three wins and as many defeats. Omani clubs Sohar and Saham were fifth and sixth, respectively, while UAE’s Banni Yas failed to win a single match.
