Ali Ghanim Al Kuwari was elected unopposed as the new president of Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) on Tuesday. He succeeded Khalid Ali Al Mawlawi, who did not seek re-election after completing his four-year term.
Al Kuwari, a former Qatar international and member in the previous QVA Board, is a respected figure in volleyball circles.
He had proved his organisational capability by playing a key role during the FIVB Club World Championships which the QVA hosted from 2009 to 2012. “I thank the whole Qatar volleyball family for believing in my vision. It’s an honour for me to lead the QVA and take our sport to greater heights in future. Development at the grass-roots level will be given top priority,” said Al Kuwari to Doha Stadium Plus.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Ali Al Mohannadi retained the post of general secretary. In a close contest, he beat Khaled Al Kaabi 11-10.
Yousef Kano, Mubarak Eid and Saeed Salem were elected as Board members. One of them will be chosen as treasurer in its next meeting.
