Qatar emerged as champions in the GCC Under-20 Championship in Manama last week. In a crucial round-robin tie, they defeated champions Bahrain 25-20, 25-21, 26-24.
Qatar asserted their regional supremacy as they remained the only unbeaten team, with five wins.
After easing past the UAE 25-12, 25-15, 25-20 in the lung opener, Qatar earned a hard-fought 23-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-23 win against Saudi Arabia in the second game.
They later defeated Oman 25-20, 25-15, 25-20 and Kuwait 25-20, 25-20, 25-16.
With Bahrain also winning their first four matches, their tie against Qatar turned out to be the decider.
But Bahrain could not put up much of a fight against the powerful serves of Ahmed Hirawi and Sharif Younis, along with excellent defensive work by Ammar Solokar and Abdulaziz Al Hitmi.
Saudi Arabia finished third after defeating the UAE 32-34, 25-19, 18-25, 25-18, 15-8 while Oman beat Kuwait 25-13, 25-23, 20-25, 22-25, 15-12 to finish fifth.
