The Qatar Volleyball Association (QVA) and national head coach Roberto Piazza mutually agreed to part ways last week.
Piazza, who replaced Argentinian Juan Manuel Cichello in March on a one-year deal, was relieved of his duties after the Italian expressed his interest to return to his country, where he has spent most of his two-decade coaching career.
The 48-year-old had a prior spell at Modena Volley, where he served as an assistant to former Al Rayyan coach Daniele Bagnoli.
Modena are one of the most successful Italian clubs and have won the national league and cup a record 12 times apiece.
Under Piazza, Qatar made their debut at the FIVB World League and though they could not advance past the group stage, they beat strong teams like Tunisia, Greece and Puerto Rico.
The QVA is already on the lookout for Piazza’s successor with high-profile names from Europe on top of the list.
