El Jaish, chasing an elusive QVA League crown, kept themselves on the course with a spirited straight-set victory over Qatar Sports Club at the Al Arabi Club Indoor Hall on Wednesday.
The army team, whose previous best has been third-place finish on two occasions in the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, defeated the rivals by 25-19 26-24 25-11 in just 70 minutes.
This was the 16th win for El Jaish in 19 matches and it raised their points tally to 48. They are now at par with leaders Police, who have two matches on their hand.
For El Jaish, Jakub Jarosz, who represented Poland in the 2012 London Olympic Games and his team lost to eventual champions Russia in the quarter-finals, emerged as the top scorer. The opposite collected 21 points, including 18 from attack.
Amar and Youssef also sparkled for the winners, landing 12 and 11 points, respectively.
For Qatar Sports Club, Pepsi was the most successful with 16 points. Embu was the next best, having only nine.
In another match, Al Wakrah Club rallied back from 1-2 sets down to overcome Al Gharafa Club by 25-21 24-26 20-25 25-19 20-18 in one hour and 57 minutes.
With their seventh win, Al Wakrah concluded their campaign with 22 points. Al Gharafa, placed at the bottom, have just seven points from one win and 18 defeats.
For Al Wakrah Club, Falo led the way with 14 points. Nekola and Allan got 12 each. Three players recorded nine apiece for the winners – Sohel, Faysal and Grace.
Madison had a match-high 23 points for the losing side. Pedro (22) and Arias (20) were other big contributors. However, other players could not led the desired support to them.
