The top duo of Jefferson Pereira and Cherif Younousse will lead Qatar’s challenge at the Kish Island Open, to be held from February 15 to 19.
Qatar will also be fielding a second team, comprising Julio De Nacimento and Ahmad Tijan, as the FIVB World Tour heads for Iran for the first time.
Pereira and Cherif have been in good form and went on to reach the quarterfinal of World Championships in the Netherlands last July.
They had recently won the 1st and 2nd National Tour 2016 at the Al Gharafa courts.
The Kish event is the first of the 10 Open tournaments to be staged by the FIVB this year. Qatar will host the sixth event of the series at the Al Gharafa courts from April 4 to 8.
The 2016 FIVB series also includes five Grands Slam along with three Swatch Major Series events. The highlight of the calendar is the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
“Being an Olympic year, we’re taking all events seriously. The Kish Island Open is the first of the many events in which we’ll be fielding our teams,” said Qatar Volleyball Association General Secretary Mohammed Ali Al Mohannadi to Doha Stadium Plus Magazine.
Al Mohannadi is also in charge of beach volleyball in QVA.
